JAHSS Annual Conferece 2026
Dates: November 14-15, 2026
Venue: Keio University, Shonan Fujisawa Campus
Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan
"If to be secure means to be free from fear of being killed, persecuted, or abused; free from the abject poverty that brings indignity and self-contempt; free to make choices - then a majority of people in today's world do not live in security.” The world that Sadako Ogata- then UN High Commissioner for Refugees- observed in 1999 has changed remarkably little. In the post-COVID-19 era, humanity faces a paradox of unprecedented opportunities and mounting challenges. We are witnessing the rapid emergence of Artificial Intelligence alongside severe political crises, ongoing wars, extreme climate events, and the demographic strain of rapidly aging societies.
These compounding crises act as driving forces that accelerate human flows across national borders to historic levels. Consequently, individuals find themselves confronted with an ever-increasing diversity of problems in their daily lives, while local communities must learn to navigate a profound rise in human diversity.
For the JAHSS Annual Conference this year, we wish to highlight how social changes intersect with the 3 key pillars of human security: Freedom from fear, Freedom from want, and Freedom from indignity.
Through calling for papers across a wide range of research topics, we would like to address the key question: how individuals and societies adapt to, cope with and establish their own human securities in the face of these rapid changes to their environment and conditions.
We are beyond excited to host this year’s conference in Keio University, Shonan Fujisawa Campus, and please find details of the conference, as well as the registration process, below.
